Bruce Wayne Lamar

June 3, 1953 — September 9, 2024

Callahan, Florida

Bruce Wayne Lamar, 71, of Callahan, Florida, passed away Monday, September 9, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida.

Bruce was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on June 3, 1953, to William Claude Lamar, Jr. and Juanita Tuttle Lamar. He grew up on a 160-acre farm in Mounds, Oklahoma, where his paternal grandparents owned a farm as well. In school, Bruce excelled in academics and in the Beggs High School Future Farmers of America chapter. He won numerous awards in horticulture, livestock, and public speaking and held offices at both the local and state levels.

After he graduated from Beggs High School in 1971, he proudly served his country for six years in the United States Army. Later he attended college at Oklahoma State University and Northeast Oklahoma A & M and later received a Bachelor of Theology degree from Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary.

When he was 18 years old, Bruce made the greatest decision of his life while attending Falls Creek Baptist Youth Camp in Oklahoma. He decided to follow the Lord Jesus Christ and later felt called to serve in Christian ministry. For over 20 years, Bruce served as a youth director, music minister, associate pastor, and pastor in churches in Oklahoma and Florida. In later years, he worked in various other fields, primarily in fencing and automatic gate operations, but his greatest passion remained serving Jesus Christ in the local church. He continued to teach Bible Fellowship classes at Callahan First Baptist Church until his passing.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of almost 44 years, Jean Brophy Lamar; his four children – Nathan Wayne Lamar; Kharmon Lamar Wofford (James); Aimee Lamar Roddenberry (Shaun); and Jared Michael Lamar (Whitney); 13 grandchildren: Nathan Jr., Noah, Jonah, and Eli Lamar; Preston and Kerstyn Ginnetto; Tristen, Wyatt, and Layton Roddenberry; Everly, Amelia, Josiah, and Olivia Lamar; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Liane Downing.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, September 16, from 6:00-8:00 at Callahan First Baptist Church, 45090 Green Avenue. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 17 at 11:00 AM, also at Callahan First Baptist. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery in Callahan, Florida.
