In Loving Memory of John Drew Sauls Sr.
Master Welder, Sawmill Worker, Farmer, Father, Grandfather, and Loyal Friend
October 18, 1944 – April 25, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Drew Sauls Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on April 25, 2025 at the age of 80.
A man of extraordinary skill and quiet strength, John spent his life working with his hands and heart. He was a master welder and talented sawmill worker; whose knowledge of machines and metal was unmatched. His unrelenting work ethic and attention to craftsmanship led to a long career with the Local Union 234 and WW Gay that added to a legacy of diligent, unrelenting hard work, dedication and craftsmanship — traits that marked everything he did, from the precision of his work to the way he treated others.
When he wasn’t in the shop or the mill, John could be found on his farm — a place that brought him peace and purpose. He had a deep connection to the land and a special fondness for tractors, each one carefully maintained and loved. To him, they weren’t just tools — they were part of a life well-lived and work well done.
Though humble and hardworking, John had a wide circle of wonderful friends, each one held close to his heart. He cherished those friendships dearly — whether it was time spent sharing stories, lending a hand, or simply enjoying a quiet moment together. His loyalty, generosity, and sense of humor made him someone people naturally gravitated toward.
He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He taught by example — showing his family the value of a strong unwavering work ethic, perseverance, kindness, and humility. His legacy lives on in the hands and hearts of those he leaves behind.
John Drew Sauls Sr. is survived by his devoted son, John Drew Sauls Jr., loving daughter-in-law, Felicia Sauls and four adoring grandchildren — two grandsons — John Drew Sauls III (J.D.) and his wife Melissa, Ethan Troy-Amos Sauls and a granddaughter — Emmie McKenna Sauls each of whom brought immeasurable pride and joy to his life. He is also lovingly remembered by his cherished step-mother, Maria Sauls, whose support and presence remained a comforting constant throughout his life. They will carry forward the lessons he taught and the love he gave.
His memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
A private family service was held to honor his life, with a celebration of his legacy that followed. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor his memory by taking a moment to enjoy the quiet beauty of a well-tended field, the hum of a good machine, or the satisfaction of a job done right — just as he would have.
