Mary Christine Oswalt

Mary Christine Oswalt, 94, of Hilliard, Florida, passed away at her residence on Thursday, June 6, 2024. She was born in Fayetteville, WV on September 14, 1929, to the late Christopher Skaggs and Verdie Bell. She was a member of New Life Baptist Church in St. George, GA. She lived in Hilliard for the past 23 years.

Mary owned a restaurant, Lucky’s Cafe, in Virginia Beach, VA, where she met her future husband, Charles. She put him to work, and the rest is history. Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. In her early days as a mother, she made her daughters’ clothes as she was an accomplished seamstress.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Charles Oswalt, 4 daughters; Garvin (Ray) Nelson, Bobbie Karasik, Sandra Coleman, and Kimberly Perno, a son; Randy Lowery, 10 grandchildren; Travis, Kevin, Brandy, John, Megan, Shane, Blake, Kevin, Shawn and Daysha, 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 brother, Paul (Deborah) Bell, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 3-brothers; Billy Bell, Bobby Bell, and Charles Bell, Jr., 3-sisters; Trudy Long, Hazel Sermons, and Anna Mae Sorey, a granddaughter, Shannon Beth Austin; and a great grandson.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday June 14, 2024, at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home – Callahan. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
