Michael Shaun Mahan, beloved husband and friend, passed away on October 10, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. He was 59 years old. Though he has left us here on earth, we rejoice in the knowledge that Mike is now in the presence of Jesus, in perfect health, free from pain, and once again able to play the piano with the brilliance that so many knew and loved.
Born on March 30, 1965, in Columbia, MO, to Joe and Wanda Mahan, Mike grew up in Missouri, attending Rock Bridge High School. After college, he eventually relocated to Florida, where his life took a turn for the better when he met and married the love of his life, Christi Conner. Together, they shared nearly 18 beautiful years of marriage.
A gifted pianist, Mike began playing at the age of five. His passion for the instrument grew over the years, leading him to become an extraordinary pianist whose talent touched many hearts. For over two decades, Mike served as the pianist at Callahan First Baptist. Whether playing a beloved hymn or an intricate arrangement, Mike’s fingers danced over the keys with a natural grace, filling the sanctuary with beautiful melodies. His ability to play was truly a gift from God that he shared generously. He deeply loved and cherished the relationships with his church family.
Outside of music, Mike was known for his love of Starbucks coffee, his unwavering devotion to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and his quirky insistence for always wearing socks. He carried these passions with a joyful spirit, making those around him smile.
Mike’s faith was an anchor throughout his life, and he drew comfort and strength from his favorite Bible verses, Isaiah 40:8 and Isaiah 41:10, which spoke to his enduring belief in God’s presence and promises.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Wanda Mahan, and his uncle, Major Doug Mahan.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Christi, his loving in-laws, Carlile and Faye Conner, his brother Stuart (Janna) Mahan of Ashland, MO, his sister Stephanie Mahan of Columbia, MO, his brother-in-law Lyle (Anine) Conner, his sister-in-law Mary Beth (Terry) Williams, and his nieces and nephews: Austin, Kayla, and Jameson (Angel) Mahan; Dalton (Lexi), Peyton, and Colton Conner; and Tristen and Bella Williams.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and the funeral service will be on Wednesday, October 16, at 11:00 AM at Callahan First Baptist .
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Community Hospice of NE FL or Callahan First Baptist in Mike’s memory.
